6 AM-10 AM
This shift involves checking my skin, dressing me, and moving me from bed to my power chair. Properly positioning me in my chair is next. It is a task of ultimate importance. Proper positioning not only increases comfort; it also directly impacts skin health, mobility, and countless other issues on which my health as a quadriplegic depends. Finally, you will be asked to help me with various personal care tasks. These include cooking breakfast, helping me eat, giving me my morning medication, and brushing my teeth. Each task outlined above is an important part of the preparation for my day.
2 PM-3 PM
Help with weight shifts, medication, food prep, and light housekeeping. Tasks vary based on the day and season.
6 PM-11 PM – Shower
When you arrive, I will need help with a weight shift and positioning in my wheelchair. Next, you will be asked to prepare and help me eat dinner. After dinner, we use a sliding transfer to my standing machine. After securing me in the standing machine, I will stand for about 45 minutes. During this time, you will work to clean up dinner dishes and other light housekeeping.
After standing for 45 minutes, you will transfer me to bed from the standing machine. The hoyer lift will be used for this transfer. Once on the bed, you and another aid will remove my pants and transfer me to the shower chair. after positioning me on the shower chair, we will move to the bathroom.
When my shower is finished, you will transfer me to bed using a Hoyer lift. Once I am on the bed, you will need to check my skin and change my leg bag. You will round out your shift by positioning my water bottle, and connecting my electronic devices.
7 PM-11 PM – Non-shower
When you arrive, I will need help with a weight shift and positioning in my wheelchair. Next, you will be asked to prepare and help me eat dinner. After dinner, we will use a sliding transfer to my standing machine. After I am securely in the standing machine, I will stand for about 1 1/2 hours. During this time, you will work to clean up dinner dishes and other light housekeeping.
Once I finish standing, we will use a Hoyer lift to move me to bed. After that, I need to be undressed, have my skin checked, get my leg bag changed, and have my water bottle positioned. Your shift will end when my electronic devices are set up and plugged in.
